Alaska Sun is a coalition of solar businesses, academics, and interested individuals working toward a renewable energy future for Alaska. Established in May 2001, its funding originally came through the National Million Solar Roofs Coalition monies from the U.S. Department of Energy. Its site is now maintained by UAF's Cooperative Extension Service and is dedicated to promoting renewable energy for Alaska. ABS Alaskan, Inc. maintains a site that discusses renewable energy options, remote power products, tax credits and intertie incentives throughout Alaska. More InformationThe Sitka Conservation Society, in collaboration with the City of Sitka’s Electrical Department, has produced six Energy Conservation Brochures on how residents can reduce their energy consumption and their carbon emissions. The Sitka Global Warming Group is a dynamic community action group dedicated to bringing Sitkans together to learn about and implement methods for reducing carbon emissions through energy conservation and the use of alternative energy resources. Visit their Focus Areas page to learn more about CFL's and the Bike to Work Program. The City of Sitka's Power Supply Plan, released in December, 2007, discusses projected developments through 2030. The Sitka Conservation Society is actively engaged in developing energy policies and strategies to deal with global climate change. Sitka is looking for volunteers for its Climate Action Plan Task Force. This task force will advise the Assembly on methods to plan for and mitigate the impacts of climate change and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.
